Q Do some roads require permits to travel?

Many of the roads in the northwest are unsealed and/or are private roads requiring a permit to travel. Check with the Police Station or Tourist Information Centre in respect of permits. If you travel on a road without a valid permit you may invalidate your cover and in most cases McLaren Hire will hold you at Fault.

Q Am I covered if I drive at night?

Yes but the level of cover will depend on what premium you select. However we recommend you don’t travel at night the roads can be dangerous and wildlife and stock roam around unfenced and are harder to detect at night.

Q Can local roads be dangerous?

Many local roads are unsealed or alternate between being sealed and unsealed which increases the risk of rollovers and other accidents. You must be very careful to proceed at a safe driving speed.

Q How do I find out if a road is closed?

In the event of a cyclone or local flooding road may be closed. Contact the Main Roads Department - http://http://www.mainroads.wa.gov.au

Q How do I know the different types of roads?
"Gazetted", "Gazetted Road", "Road", "Sealed Road", "Unsealed Road"

Q Can I take the vehicle on the beach?

The vehicle must not be taken on beaches, boat ramps, rivers, lakes or other places where the vehicle enters the water or could be immersed or partially or totally submerged in water. You will void any cover if you do so.

Q Do I have to refuel the vehicle?

No. However if you do not refuel the vehicle prior to return you will be charged at the current McLaren Hire rate at the branch you return your vehicle to.

Q Do I need to return the vehicle clean?

Yes To avoid any cleaning charges you need to return the vehicle in the condition you received it.

Q When is my bond returned?

If there are no additional charges your bond will be returned within 5 working days. In the event you have damage you will be notified by email or phone and action will be taken accordingly.

Q How long is a one day hire?

One day hire is 24 hours from the time you have reserved the vehicle for.

Q What if I am late picking up my vehicle?

Rental charges commence from the time you have reserved the vehicle from. This is the time we have held the vehicle for you.

Q What if I’m late back?

You must return your vehicle by the time on your contract. If this is not possible you need to contact our office. You have one hours grace – no additional fees apply. For periods of 1-4 hours the late return charge is calculated at one fifth of the daily rental rate for each hour or part thereof; If a vehicle is returned more than 4 hours late that counts as hire for an additional day.

Q Who is authorised to drive the vehicle?

The Hirer who’s name appears on the contract. You are able to have additional drivers up to 2, however all drivers current licenses must be viewed by McLaren’s staff at time of collection of the vehicle.

Q What happens if I have an Accident?

The Hirer must contact McLaren Hire immediately. A Police report is required. Further to this you will find a guide sheet in your glove box. Additional costs will depend on the type of cover you have taken at time of the hire.

Q Can I extend my hire once it is on hire?

Yes as long as you contact the branch where you picked the vehicle up and the vehicle is not already reserved to another client Subject to availability

Q Can I change or cancel my reservation?

Yes at no charge as long as long as you notify us more than 48 hours prior to your collection date/time. If this is within 24 hours 1 day hire will be charged for a late change.

Q I am just picking the vehicle up am I responsible for it?

Yes. Any person who signs the contract on behalf of the Hirer (Company or Private) is the duly authorised agent of the Hirer. If such person is not the duly authorised agent of the Hirer then they shall be deemed to be the Hirer and agrees to be bound by all the terms and conditions

Q Am I covered if I hit a cow or kangaroo?

This would depend on the level of cover you take with McLaren Hire. Speak to a sales rep to discuss your options.

Q Do I get unlimited kilometres?

No, our standard hire provides you with 100km free per day.

Q Who do I contact if my vehicle is due for a service?

Call us on 1800 CAR 4 HIRE, advise your contract number and location and we will book the service at one of our branches for you.

Q Who do I call if my vehicle breaks down after hours?

Our staff are on call 24/7 for any after hour's emergencies.

Q Am I covered if I chip or crack a window?

No, Insurance does not cover this. All damage to any window is the hirer’s responsibility. You can have the vehicle repaired prior to returning or return and we will charge you accordingly.

Q Am I covered if I puncture a tyre?

No, Insurance does not cover this. All damage to any tyre is the hirer’s responsibility. You can have the vehicle repaired prior to returning or return and we will charge you accordingly.

Q Can I take the vehicle one way?

Yes you can. A relocation cost will apply. We do have one way hire for sedans between Port Hedland and Karratha at no cost. Contact one of the friendly staff to enquire.

Q Do you charge Airport fees?

Yes we do. This depends on what location. Contact the sales staff to obtain a quote.
